Celebrating Black History Month

Updated: Mar 28

This Black History Month holds special significance for me as the founder of a Black woman-led organization making a tangible impact in our community. Henning Inc. is more than just a homeless services provider; it’s a beacon of hope and a testament to the strength and resilience of Black leadership. I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing through programs like our shelter-to-housing model, Rocket Fuel, Reverb, and many others. Each of these initiatives embodies our commitment to building a more equitable, community-oriented future.

Black History Month is a time to honor the legacy of those who came before us, who fought tirelessly for justice, equality, and opportunity. It’s a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the challenges that remain. For Henning Inc., it’s a reminder of the importance of our mission and the role we play in shaping a future where everyone, regardless of their background, has a chance to thrive.

Our vision for a better, more inclusive Anchorage feels more achievable than ever. This month, as we celebrate the rich history and contributions of Black leaders and change-makers, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible work our team continues to do every day. Their dedication, passion, and perseverance inspire me, and together, we are pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and striving for meaningful change. We are building a community where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and self-sufficiency, and that is something truly worth celebrating.

Let us carry the spirit of Black History Month beyond February, continuing to honor and uplift Black voices, stories, and achievements in everything we do.

A Glimpse of my Journey

When I founded Henning Inc. in 2020, I had a clear mission: to build a powerful team that could address the gaps in our homeless response system and ensure no one loses their life because of systematic failures. I’m deeply committed to driving innovative, long-term change for Anchorage, and I believe we’re making incredible strides toward that goal.

With over 10 years of experience in program management, project leadership, fiscal management, and organizational development, my focus has always been on creating sustainable housing solutions and comprehensive support services for vulnerable populations. As an advocate for individuals experiencing homelessness, I lead initiatives that meet immediate needs while also fostering long-term stability. My passion is empowering individuals to regain self-sufficiency and dignity, and I strive to ensure Henning Inc. supports every person we serve with compassion and respect.

My journey is grounded in balancing strategic thinking with empathy, ensuring that while we tackle the practical aspects of homelessness, we never lose sight of the humanity of those we help. I hold a B.S. in Business Administration, a Master of Public Administration, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership, which have equipped me with the tools to build partnerships, secure resources, and implement innovative approaches that reduce homelessness and foster community resilience.

Together, we have achieved remarkable progress, but our work is far from over. As we continue to tackle the challenges of homelessness and strive for a more inclusive community, I am confident that our dedication and collaborative efforts will lead to lasting change. Henning Inc. remains committed to empowering individuals, transforming lives, and creating a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

This Black History Month, we also recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of Black leaders who are making tangible changes in our communities every day. Their leadership, resilience, and vision inspire us to keep pushing boundaries and working toward a more equitable society. Thank you for your ongoing support and belief in our mission—together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate Anchorage.

In solidarity,
