Non-profit of the year

We’re thrilled to announce that Henning Inc. has been named Non-Profit of the Year for this year’s Community Impact Award! This recognition reflects our dedication to supporting Alaskans experiencing homelessness through essential services, emergency shelter, and housing. Since our founding, we’ve helped 454 individuals transition from shelter to stable housing, and last winter, we served 81% of Anchorage’s homeless community.

Our peer support model has been key to our success, starting with our first project in May 2022, where we housed 80 Alaskans at the Aviator Hotel. Notably, we’ve assisted 100 individuals in securing nearly $900,000 in emergency rental assistance and launched our Master Lease program, currently supporting 64 tenants and providing emergency housing for 60 more. We're proud of our impact and remain committed to walking alongside those in need.

Our bittersweet transition out of the congregate shelter.

We hosted a heartfelt BBQ at the CWS shelter in Midtown to say farewell to the clients we’ve had the privilege to serve. It was a beautiful occasion to connect, share stories, and celebrate the incredible progress everyone has made during their time with us. The air was filled with laughter, delicious food, and a strong sense of community as we reflected on the journeys we've shared together.

We are truly grateful for the moments we've experienced together and remain committed to supporting our clients as they move forward. This event not only strengthened our bonds but also reaffirmed our dedication to walking alongside those facing homelessness. As they embark on their next chapter, we will continue to offer the encouragement and resources they need to thrive.

Standing up non congregate shelter for this winter.

We’re excited to continue our mission and provide a safe and warm place to sleep for 200 Alaskans at Merrill Field Inn, the Alex Hotel, and the Henry House. Our emergency cold weather shelter services are designed not only to offer shelter but also to foster a supportive environment through our peer support and lived experience model. This approach allows us to connect with our guests on a personal level, creating a community where individuals feel understood and valued.

By incorporating the insights and experiences of those who have faced homelessness themselves, we empower our staff to provide compassionate support that truly resonates. Our team is dedicated to helping guests navigate their paths to stability, whether through immediate assistance or connecting them to long-term resources. We believe that everyone deserves a warm place to rest and the opportunity to rebuild their lives, and we are committed to walking alongside them every step of the way.

Let’s keep walking beside each other,
