Henning Inc. Launches Summer Food Program to Support Anchorage Youth

Free Meals Available for Kids and Teens (Ages 0-18) at Spenard Rec, Fairview Rec, and Mt. View Community Center

Anchorage, AK – Henning Inc. is proud to announce the launching of its Summer Food Program, providing free, nutritious meals for children and teens ages 0–18 in the Anchorage community. The program will run Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at both Spenard Rec and Fairview Rec.

This initiative is designed not only to address food insecurity but also to ensure that children and teens have the resources they need to thrive, focus, and build a healthier future. Food insecurity is a major stressor, especially for families experiencing homelessness or instability. By offering a reliable source of nutritious meals, the Summer Food Program alleviates the anxiety that many young people feel when they are uncertain about where their next meal will come from.

"When kids and teens don’t have to worry about their next meal, they are better able to focus, learn, and grow," said Shawn Hays, Executive Director of Henning Inc. "This program not only fuels their bodies, but it also helps to reduce stress, promote mental well-being, and create a more supportive community for all. We are excited to offer this opportunity to families who need it most."

The Summer Food Program is open to all youth in Anchorage, with on-site registration available, making it accessible to any child or teen in need. This initiative is part of Henning Inc.’s ongoing efforts to support mental health, wellness, and community stability—particularly for those impacted by homelessness and financial instability.
