Henning Inc. is dedicated to its mission by serving Anchorage’s most vulnerable
Anchorage, AK – Henning Inc. is proud to announce a new contract with the Municipality of Anchorage to operate the 100-bed Midtown congregate shelter. Dedicated to serving Anchorage’s most vulnerable residents, Henning has been a key partner in the city’s homelessness response system since 2021.
Over the past several years, Henning Inc. has supported thousands of Alaskans through congregate and non-congregate shelters, emergency cold weather shelters, warming centers, and housing initiatives. Having successfully operated the CWS shelter in the past, Henning is prepared to reassume operations and continue providing critical services to the community.
"Our mission has always been to meet people where they are and provide dignity and stability during moments of crisis," said Shawn Hays, Executive Director of Henning Inc. "Resuming operations of the Midtown congregate shelter is another step in ensuring Anchorage’s homelessness response system has the capacity and expertise it needs."
Crystal Abbott, Deputy Executive Director, added: "Our team has extensive experience running congregate shelters. We are ready to bring that expertise to Midtown, walking beside those we serve to ensure people have a safe, supportive space.”
“Addressing homelessness requires collaboration and adaptability," said Alexis Johnson, Strategy Director. "This partnership with the municipality underscores the importance of aligning resources to meet the needs of Anchorage’s most vulnerable neighbors, those experiencing unsheltered homelessness."
