Continuing our mission by providing a home cooked Thanksgiving meal for those in need
Anchorage: Yesterday, the Henning team prepared and served a home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner to over 400 Alaskans across four locations. Clients and residents at the Henning House, the Alex Hotel, Merrill Field, and the Golden Lion were treated to a festive and comforting meal, featuring mashed potatoes, stuffing, mac and cheese, vegetables, ham, and dinner rolls. The dinner was not only a chance to enjoy a warm, hearty meal but also a reminder of the power of community. Volunteers worked together to ensure each meal was prepared with care and delivered with kindness, offering a sense of connection and gratitude during the holiday season. This generous meal was made possible thanks to the outpouring of support from local businesses, organizations, and individuals who donated their time, food items, and financial resources.
“It’s incredible to be able to give back to our communities in so many ways,” said Executive Director Shawn Hays. “The support we receive from local businesses and individuals truly makes a difference, and we are so grateful for their contributions.”
Deputy Executive Director Crystal Abbott also shared, “This event is a beautiful example of how when we come together, we can create something truly meaningful. The joy on the faces of those we served was a reminder of the impact we can have, not just during the holidays, but every day of the year.”
“Being part of this effort is incredibly rewarding,” said Program Manager Daniel Harris. “It’s not just about providing a meal; it’s about showing people they’re valued and cared for. The gratitude we see from those we serve is a powerful reminder of why we do this work. Moments like these bring our community together and truly capture the spirit of Thanksgiving.”
